Microbiological profile

Microbiological insights for more precise periodontal care

MyOral Pathogens detects DNA from microorganisms associated with periodontitis and peri-implant disease in samples collected from periodontal pockets or peri-implant sulci.

The results complement the clinical examination and help characterize the patient’s microbiological profile, support individualized treatment planning, and enable follow-up when considered appropriate by the healthcare professional.

What does the analysis provide?

  • Specific identification of periodontopathogenic microorganisms.
  • Semi-quantitative estimation of bacterial load.
  • Characterization of the periodontal or peri-implant microbiological profile.
  • Support for individual risk assessment and clinical planning.
  • Possibility of comparing results before and after treatment.
Clinical application

When can it be useful?

A complementary tool for dental, periodontal and implantology professionals.

01

Periodontitis and disease progression

Supports microbiological characterization in cases of progressive or recurrent disease, or when the response to conventional treatment is insufficient.

02

Peri-implant disease

Enables the analysis of microorganisms present in peri-implant sulci, providing additional information to complement the clinical assessment.

03

Treatment monitoring

Can be used to compare the microbiological profile before and after treatment when clinically indicated.

Comparison

5-Pathogen vs. 11-Pathogen Panel

The analysis is available as a basic panel of five microorganisms or an expanded panel of eleven.

Microorganism Panel 5 Panel 11 Relevance
Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans Highly virulent pathogen
Porphyromonas gingivalis Red complex
Prevotella intermedia Periodontal pathogen
Tannerella forsythia Red complex
Treponema denticola Red complex
Parvimonas micra Expanded panel
Fusobacterium nucleatum / periodonticum Expanded panel
Campylobacter rectus Expanded panel
Eubacterium nodatum Expanded panel
Eikenella corrodens Expanded panel
Capnocytophaga spp. Expanded panel
Process

How MyOral Pathogens works

The sample is collected at the dental clinic using sterile paper points from the sites selected by the healthcare professional.

Site selection

The healthcare professional selects the periodontal pockets or peri-implant sulci to be analyzed.

Sample collection

A sterile paper point is gently inserted into the selected site to collect microbiological material.

Molecular analysis

Bacterial DNA is extracted and analyzed using multiplex PCR amplification followed by identification through reverse hybridization.

Results report

The healthcare professional receives a report detailing the microorganisms detected and a semi-quantitative estimate of their relative abundance.

MyOral Pathogens Report

Clear results to support clinical assessment

The report presents the microorganisms detected and their estimated bacterial load, providing a structured overview of the microbiological profile analyzed.

  • Presence or absence of the microorganisms included in the panel.
  • Semi-quantitative estimation of bacterial load.
  • Microbiological grouping and interpretation of the findings.
  • Complementary information to be integrated with the patient’s clinical data.

Clinical application

Molecular technology and analytical quality control

The analysis uses multiplex PCR and reverse hybridization, with internal and external controls throughout the different stages of the analytical process.

Multiplex PCR

Simultaneous amplification of specific genetic regions from different microorganisms.

Reverse hybridization

Specific identification using complementary probes immobilized on a membrane.

Semi-quantitative bacterial load

Signal intensity enables an estimate of the relative concentration of each microorganism.

Quality controls

Amplification, extraction, conjugate and hybridization controls are performed before results are validated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about MyOral Pathogens

What type of sample is used?

The sample is collected using sterile paper points inserted into selected periodontal pockets or peri-implant sulci.

What is the difference between the 5- and 11-pathogen panels?

The basic panel analyzes five microorganisms of particular periodontal relevance. The expanded panel includes six additional microorganisms to provide broader microbiological characterization.

Can the test diagnose periodontitis or peri-implantitis on its own?

No. MyOral Pathogens is a complementary clinical support tool. Results should be interpreted alongside the periodontal or peri-implant clinical examination, radiographic findings, patient history and other risk factors.

Can it be used for treatment monitoring?

Yes. When considered clinically appropriate, it can be used to compare the microbiological profile before and after treatment.

Professional use

MyOral Pathogens is a complementary clinical support tool and should be requested and interpreted by a qualified healthcare professional. Microbiological results alone do not establish a diagnosis of periodontitis or peri-implantitis and do not automatically determine the need for antibiotic treatment.
